Salt, the origin of the word ‘salary’, and the white gold left behind when the sea left Lorraine millions of years ago. The town of Marsal is inextricably linked with salt and shows the differing methods of extraction and exploitation of this precious mineral since the Iron Age, local evolution and its influence on the countryside. The museum also displays the history of the fortifications undertaken by Vauban.
