After a lovely day of skiing or hiking, nothing’s more enjoyable than giving in to the sweetness of the Vosges. A delight for both the eyes and the taste buds, the confectioneries of the Vosges invite foodies on a visit to their workshops. A chance to discover the traditional secrets of the artisan candy makers, before the much-anticipated tasting. In Plainfaing, the Confiserie des Hautes Vosges offers more than 35 kinds of candies made with natural flavourings and essential oils, such as eucalyptus, violet and blackberry. Pieces of candy are also used in gourmet herbal teas. As for the Confiserie Géromoise, they use primarily local, 100% organic ingredients (including honey, essential oils and wild berries) for the entire range of products, from traditional Vosges pine candy to the fruity blueberry flavour.

B. Jamot

Treat yourself after a day or skiing! Because after a deep breath of fresh air, nothing’s better than a delicious meal shared around a fireplace. Taste a famous marcaire meal, a speciality of the farmhouse inns Les Grands Prés above Plainfaing and La Mexel, between the skiing areas of Mauselaine and Bas-Rupts in Gérardmer. This home-made, traditional menu includes a stew or a pie from the valley, tofailles (potatoes cooked in butter and lard), smoked pork, Munster cheese and finishes with a slice of brimbelle tart made with a local variety of bilberries.

Garnier Thiebaut

Three famous textile manufacturers have their home in the heart of the Vosges, champions of quality traditions and know-how: Garnier Thiebaut, Le Jacquard Français and Bleu des Vosges. All year long, fans of fine linens can visit the factory stores in Gérardmer for a bit of shopping. With household linens, items for the kitchen or bathroom and sewing supplies and fabric for clothing or upholstery: there’s something to suit all tastes.
