Wines of Lorraine

The renewal of Lorraine’s vineyards
For the quality of their taste as well as their diversity, the wines* of Lorraine are worth the trip. These local products from Moselle, Toul and Meuse are made from different varietals and with know-how passed down over the centuries. Our human-sized vineyards are booming, with more hectares of vine stock each year, while attracting younger winegrowers.

AOC Côtes de Toul

Covering 8 villages, the AOC Côtes de Toul designation is worth the trip. Toul winegrowers produce grey, red and white wines*, including the famous Gris de Toul rosé wine with a crystal-clear colour. The vineyard has great advantages, transforming the 3 main varietals in ways you’ve never before tasted: Gamay, Pinot Noir and Auxerrois.

Côtes de Meuse wines

Its neighbours have nothing on the wines of Meuse. Rooted on gentle slopes, the vineyards are surrounded by mirabelle, apple and cherry orchards. Lesser-known, the geographical zone of PGI Côtes de Meuse covers 15 towns. The designation is reserved for white, grey, rosé and red still wines.

Wineroutes

The tale of the wines of Lorraine is best told by the winegrowers. Visit their wineries and discover an endearing, authentic and charming land.

AOC Côtes de Toul

“For me, these are enjoyable, fruity, light and gentle wines that please the taste buds. I like the bistro atmosphere that they bring to mind and I suggest them with trout, coq au vin or my famous revamped quiche Lorraine.”

PGI Côtes de Meuse

“PGI Côtes de Meuse is a bit more in the background, due to its limited quantity and lesser-known reputation. I recommend staying in touch with its roots and trying it with local specialties, game or simmered dishes.”

AOC Vins de Moselle

“I like the very feminine wines of Domaine des Béliers in Ancy-sur-Moselle. Delicate and gentle, they inspire a pairing with red berries in the summer or with high-quality, strong chocolate for a bold balance.”
