While the village of Norroy-le-Veneur owes its name to nuts (from “Nogaredum”: the Land of Nuts), it was also well-known for its vines until the 19th century. To counter the ravages of phylloxera, it was to develop fruit growing, with strawberries and other fruits, as is borne out by the orchards still found on the slopes. This village, which dates back certainly as far as the Merovingian period, also boasts an outstanding architectural heritage, with numerous fountains, its fortified church and the old mill, where the most recent extension and the bucket wheel date from 1845.
