Verdun,
land of history

Verdun, symbol of WWI
More than any other town, Verdun has become the symbol of WWI due to the intensity and length of the battles that were fought there. The centenary is a major event of international importance and the opportunity to return to the very heart of the First World War. Remembrance sites and a wealth of authentic vestiges always spark emotion in visitors.

Verdun Memorial: a major site

The battlefield of Verdun is an exception site in and of itself. Here, in 1967, under the auspices of Maurice Genevoix, a veteran and a member of the French Academy, a memorial site was erected as a rallying point for all generations. To instil understanding, the recently renovated memorial presents a remarkable collection of objects, images and testimonies. A place of remembrance, transmission and emotion. An audiovisual show dedicated to the soldiers as well as a panoramic view of the deadly battlefield reinforce the significance of this memorial site.
