Plombières-les-Bains is said to be the city of 1000 balconies, and the "Joséphine balcony", located at n°4 rue Stanislas, is without doubt the one with the most astonishing history! Joséphine de Beauharnais, wife of the Emperor Napoleon I, came regularly to Plombières-les-Bains for a cure and stayed in this house. One day when she was receiving three friends, they were waiting for a noise in the street. Out of curiosity, they rushed to the balcony... which unfortunately gave way under their weight. Joséphine was bruised by the fall and received treatment to ease the pain.
