Design and production entrusted to the sculptor Emile Edmond Peynot after a competition. The monument is composed of a granite obelisk that forms a base with a bust on a bronze pedestal. Two large statues adorn the lower part of the C-shaped plan monument: a standing dryade, leaning on the trunk of an oak tree, holding a lyre; an evocation of Chloe or an allegory of Spring sitting on a rock playing the two-pipe flute. A painter's palette lies on the ground. The theme chosen recalls Louis Français' favourite fields: landscape and mythological scenes. Its composition and the fluid treatment of the characters make this work a fine example of monumental statuary from the Art Nouveau era. Monument listed as a Historic Monument.
