Don’t miss Montmédy and its 16th-century citadel with its breathtaking views. A walk along the battlements (with sound effects) helps visitors understand and appreciate the work commissioned by Emperor Charles V, and carried out by architects Vauban and Séré de Rivières. The Fortifications Museum illustrates the development of systems of defence from the Roman invasion of Gaul to the 18th century. The museum dedicated to Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848-1884), a great artist from Meuse, was renovated in 2007. It has information panels in braille and 3D paintings.
