The ‘Au fil du papier’ museum is a display of papier-mâché and is situated in the heart of Pont-à-Mousson in a refurbished Renaissance town house. The collection is distributed over two levels and is a unique array of lacquered objects, the only one of its kind in France. Papier-mâché items on display were produced in the town and Europe during the 19th century in the fashionable chinoiserie style and range from a face powder box to a three-piece sofa. The museum also traces the history of the town, from its beginnings around the bridge, now a town symbol, to the famous Pont-à-Mousson University, a beacon of learning in Europe for over two centuries. It also holds a collection of town imagery and since 2006, a special area dedicated to the history of the ironwork foundries at Pont-à-Mousson, foundries that made the town famous throughout the world.
