Situated in the south of the département, the Saulnois region has a rich history of salt production, both in terms of its landscapes and its culture. The Musée du Sel and the salt ponds at Marsal, the Salines Royales at Dieuze and the Porte des Salines at Moyenvic bear witness to this. Its natural environments are a paradise for exceptional flora and fauna, such as the Côte de Delme and its orchids, the Etang de Lindre and its multitude of bird species, and the wetlands near Francaltroff and the Seille valley. The Domaine de Lindre, the Maison du Pays des Etangs and the many hiking trails enable visitors to discover this exceptional natural heritage. The Saulnois region is also the birthplace of Georges de La Tour, who was born in Vic-sur-Seille. A departmental museum is dedicated to him.
The Saulnois offers visitors a wide range of exceptional heritage sites, including the sumptuous organs around Albestroff, departmental museums, listed churches and collegiate churches, a contemporary art centre, etc.
